Cancun Airport to your Resort: 101

Cancun Airport- Riviera Maya

Going thru a foreign airport can be nerve-wracking, especially when you don’t speak the local language. In this article, we will give you some tips on how to go thru Cancun Airport in the easiest possible way, this is Cancun Airport to your resort: 101.

Cancun International Airport is the top Airport in Latin America and in the Caribbean. In 2016 it boasted a record of 20 million passengers, that sound like a ton of people, but do know that in 2022, we have already reached that goal! So as you can imagine, it can easily get crowded.

On the Plane

We recommend having in hand a pen, boarding pass, and of course your Passport. Once you’re flying, the airline should provide you with a form for the customs department. The document is in English and Spanish. So you should have no problem when filling it out. If you make a mistake, just ask the flying attendant for another one.

Landing at Cancun Airport

Although the airport has a lot of traffic, it only has three terminals. Terminal 1 is for company shipments and cargo. Terminal 2 is for domestic and international flights. And terminal 3, only international flights.

Once you go out of the plane, you will see signs that will lead you to immigration. During peak seasons there are also agents giving directions so it’s easier for everyone to get to where they need to be. Bathrooms are available in this area. So keep that positive thinking up and get your Passport and forms ready so everything goes by as smoothly as possible.

The immigration agent will scan your Passport and stamp it. This process shouldn’t take long as you have everything ready because a few months ago, the Cancun Airport took away the Tourist Card requirement. So there are no more delays and getting the card lost.

Getting your luggage

The baggage claim can be a traveler’s least favorite thing. It might be fast or it might take a while, it all depends on the other flights that have arrived at the same terminal. So just be patient, there’s not much to do about it. Don’t be nervous if you see dogs going past you, let them and don’t pet them, they are trained to smell certain substances and if something caught their attention, they will call you for inspection.

Customs inspection

Last stop until you are free to explore Cancun! This is where you hand the Customs form to the agents. Here, all your luggage goes thru a scanner, even your carry-on bags, and backpacks. After that, the agent will ask you to push a button to see if you are selected for a random inspection. If you get the green light, you’re good to go. In case you get the red light, your luggage will go under one more inspection.
If you get stopped for this second inspection, you will be asked to open your luggage and the inspector will search through it. Remember they are only looking for illegal items. This is a routine inspection and it should take no more than 10 minutes.

Before you reach the exit, you will go thru many desks of “Tours and Tourist Information”. Tip: keep walking, do not stop with them, they are Time Share reps. So if you don’t want to spend hours of your vacation on a sales pitch, just say no thanks and go to the exit.

Say ‘hi’ to your Private Transfer

The first thing you’ll notice is the change in weather. It does not matter where you come from, really for the tropical weather, hot and humid but still a paradise! Make sure you have light and comfortable clothes. Remember Cancun’s weather goes around the 80°F.

If you booked your private transfer with Cancun Airport Transportation, you will spot one of our greeters waving a sign with our logo (an orange suitcase).
